Build interactive multi-step guides to help visitors find what they need.

== Description ==

GuideForms turns your WordPress site into an interactive recommendation engine by guiding visitors step-by-step to the content that fits their needs.

Use the GuideForms to build product finders, recommendation quizzes, and decision wizards — no coding required.

= Walk visitors to the right answer. =

The visual guide builder lets you create multi-step flows with just a few clicks. Add option cards with images and watch as each selection narrows results in real time. Whether you're helping shoppers find the right product or matching visitors to the perfect service, GuideForms makes it effortless.

= Filter any content. =

Guides can filter posts, pages, WooCommerce products, and any custom post type. Connect steps to taxonomies, custom fields, ACF data, or product attributes — the built-in faceted index handles complex queries at lightning speed so visitors never wait.

= Show results that matter. =

Display matching content in a polished grid or list layout with images, prices, meta data, and call-to-action buttons. Live match counts update as visitors make selections, giving them confidence at every step. Empty state? Covered — customize what visitors see when nothing matches.

= Designed for WordPress. =

Embed guides anywhere with a simple shortcode or the native Gutenberg block. The frontend is lightweight, responsive, and follows WordPress design conventions so guides feel right at home in any theme. The admin editor fits naturally into the WordPress dashboard — no learning curve required.

== Source Code ==

The uncompiled source code for all compiled JavaScript and CSS assets is included in this plugin:

* `admin-app/src/` — React source for the admin editor (builds to `assets/admin/`)
* `frontend-app/src/` — Preact source for the public frontend (builds to `assets/frontend/`)

To build from source, you need Node.js 18+ and npm:

1. `npm install` — Install dependencies
2. `npm run build:admin` — Build the admin app
3. `npm run build:frontend` — Build the frontend app
4. `npm run build` — Build both

== Installation ==

1. Upload the plugin files to `/wp-content/plugins/guideforms/`
2. Activate the plugin through the 'Plugins' screen in WordPress
3. Go to Guides → Add New to create your first guide

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= How do I embed a guide? =

Use the shortcode `[guide id="123"]` or add the Guide block in the block editor.

= What post types can I filter? =

By default, you can filter posts and pages. WooCommerce products and custom post types are also supported.

= Does GuideForms work with WooCommerce? =

Yes. GuideForms can filter WooCommerce products by price, stock status, product attributes, categories, tags, and any custom field. The faceted index is optimized for large product catalogs.

= Does it work with ACF (Advanced Custom Fields)? =

Yes. GuideForms automatically detects ACF fields and lets you use them as filter sources in your guide steps.

= Can I use multiple guides on the same page? =

Yes. Each guide runs independently, so you can place several shortcodes or blocks on a single page without conflicts.

= Will GuideForms slow down my site? =

No. The frontend script is lightweight and only loads on pages that contain a guide. Filtering queries run against a dedicated index table, not raw post meta queries, so results return quickly even on large sites.

= Do guides work on mobile? =

Yes. The guide layout is fully responsive and adapts to any screen size. Buttons, cards, and result grids resize and reflow automatically.

= Can visitors go back to a previous step? =

Yes. Visitors can navigate back to any previous step to change their selections. The match count updates in real time as they adjust.

= What happens when no results match? =

GuideForms displays a customizable empty-state message so visitors are never left on a blank screen.

= Where is guide data stored? =

Guide configurations are stored as JSON in the standard WordPress posts table using a custom post type. Filter indexes, sessions, and analytics use dedicated plugin tables that are created on activation and removed on uninstall.

= Is GuideForms compatible with page builders? =

Yes. Since guides are embedded via shortcode, they work with Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, WPBakery, and any builder that supports shortcodes. The Gutenberg block is available in the native block editor.

= Do I need the PRO version to use GuideForms? =

No. The free version includes the visual builder, card steps, real-time filtering, result layouts, and the Gutenberg block. The PRO version adds slider steps, lead forms, conditional logic, analytics, integrations, and advanced design options.
